Deer firearms Nov 14- Dec 9

Welcome to the beginning of deer season, where northern Michigan is busy and the trail runners are nervous.

Tell me about it. My family will be spending Thanksgiving weekend at my late Grampa's place in the middle of the woods near Atlanta, (MI) so my dad and brother can get some hunting in. I'm already trying to figure out how I might be able to get outside for some runs without getting shot. If I have to spend the entire weekend inside, I'll go nuts!

ah yes, nothing says that fall is really here other than running on trails only to run into overweight, bearded, and camoflaged homo sapians who believe that you are some funny looking thing that almost got shot at cause you were on their trails.

You forgot "drunk," which is what a lot of those guys are, which greatly increases the risk factor. My husband and stepson, while out attempting to bird hunt, crossed paths with a couple of extremely drunk bow hunters. Husband and stepson decided to end their outing posthaste. I wouldn't want to be in the woods with those guys around, either.

scary stuff... I'll be glad when December 10th rolls around!

Still, I don't think it'll keep me from trail running. I'll just try to do it more in a group- I mean, they can't hit all of us, right? :P

The one thing that will protect us more than anything on the trails is some outerwear in Hunter Orange- recognized statewide as the color of "Don't Shoot!" It's cheap insurance. I mean, we wear reflective gear at night, right?

Don't get me wrong- I love venison. It's probably my favorite meat; I'm just a bit fearful of being taken for a deer.

And it's a bit disconcerting being surprised by a guy holding a 30-06 when I'm running down the path...
